Aurora

Installation Proposal

Fleeting, airy, and ever-changing gaseous particles fill the skies of the northernmost hemisphere during the darkest of the winter month to those who are lucky enough to catch the fleeting glimpse of Aurora Borealis. AURORA recreates the experience of hope and wonder. It reminds us of the fleeting moments of life through continuously changing the spectrum of light that filters through sunlight during the day and transforms into a kaleidoscopic luminaire at night.

Each vertical hanging laminated dichroic film gently sways to the wind and to the human touch, and the cumulative experience represents fleeting and ever-changing color spectrum within the project and from afar. The collective experience is curated through a series of site sections that became the basis of the project’s form. Contemplating on the spectrum of togetherness and isolation, the curves of the vertical laminated dichroic film pieces carves varying paths, at times separating and at times connecting to the landscape, and at other times with an enlarged path to accommodate a larger group.

AURORA is a meditation on time, travel, and place. Its quite reflections and swaying is only possible through the collective action of nature - sun, wind, river, trees - and the human participants. And it allows us to propel forward with hope and wonder.
